Laura LaChapelle,

Salty Wave Books’ Editor and Proofreader

I’ve been editing since elementary school, and my red pen has been sought after by friends, colleagues, clients, and authors ever since.  As someone who came home in tears the first day of Kindergarten because I didn’t leave school that day knowing how to read, I have always loved the written word. An avid reader, I am also a published writer and an award-winning communicator and editor.

After spending much of my undergraduate and graduate school career editing everyone’s papers, I spent over 20 years in communications (publications, marketing, advertising, and public relations), where I wrote and edited a wide range of formats – from websites to books – for a variety of clients, from tourism to sports. Meanwhile, I have taken various professional-level writing and editing courses and continuing studiessupplementing my work with clients as I edited newsletters, books, white papers, reports, short stories, and more.

An extensive professional background chock-full of initials – an honors bachelor’s degree in communications with minors in business and psychology, a Masters of Business Administration (MBA) with marketing concentration, Accreditation in Public Relations (APR) from the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) – and a wide range of interests ensures my background is experienced and diverse. A member of the Editorial Freelancers’ Association (EFA) and the American Copy Editors Society (ACES), I am a stickler for detail, widely and well read, curious, and personable, with an innate talent for working with and massaging the written word.
